How To Keep A Long-Distance Relationship Strong

How To Keep A Long-Distance Relationship Strong

We meet people every day. It can be at work, online, or while walking down the street. Then you get to talking and start going on dates, and you fall for each other. In relationships, there are times when one partner has to move for work or other reasons, and it causes you to start dating long-distance. You probably heard tons of debates and arguments on whether long-distance relationships work or don’t. Well, in this technological age, making LDRs work is more natural, and we are here to show you ways on how you can keep the relationship exciting.

1. Be Committed To The Relationship

This doesn’t just apply to those in a long-distance relationship, of course, but it’s especially true for LDRs. That’s because it’s much easier not to be committed when you can’t see your partner often. The best way to be confident that you’ll stay committed to the relationship despite the distance is first to make sure that you want to be committed to that person. If you don’t think you want to or you can, save yourself and your partner the trouble.

2. Strong Communication

You need to be able to communicate if you want to keep your long-distance relationship secure. It doesn’t mean that you automatically have to talk every day. It all depends on your mutual decision. If you decide to speak every day, then that’s alright. But if you only choose to talk every week, then that’s fine too. Every couple is different, so find something that works for you.

3. Avoid Temptations

If you miss your significant other, many things could tempt you. For instance, after a fight, you shouldn’t go to a club or a bar where you might meet someone who can take your mind off your partner. The worst thing that you could do is to try to find that warmth in someone else. Long-distance relationships can be full of these temptations, and it’s up to you to stay strong and avoid them.

4. Maintain Your Similarities

You probably became a couple because of all your similarities, right? Whatever it is, try to maintain it. Recommend films, books, games, or music that you and your partner will like. Talk about these and discuss them. These are still shared experiences, even if you may have some distance between you.

5. Think About Your Relationship Goals

One way to keep a long-distance relationship healthy is to think about the end of the long-distance part. Think about all your relationship goals. What do you want to achieve in the future? When can you finally be together? As you know, no long-distance relationship ever remains that way forever. You either break up, or you finally move together. If you’re planning to settle down in the future, make sure that you’re both on the same page.

6. Remind Your Partner How Much You Love Them

This may seem too simple to mention, but it’s honestly something that a lot of couples in a long-distance relationship forget. They think that they no longer need to remind their partner how much they love them just because they should already know it, but that’s not good enough of a reason. Just a simple “I love you, and I wish we could be together right now” can quickly soothe the aches from being apart from your partner. And that can make your relationship stronger.

7. Prioritize Them In Your Schedule

By prioritize, we don’t mean leaving everything you need to do just to talk all day long with your partner. But it is essential to save important dates or times for them. For example, if there’s a time zone difference between you and your partner and your only window is before you go to sleep, it wouldn’t be wise to go out every night with friends, would it? Sure, it may seem like a hassle at times to keep having to think about something like this, but relationships, especially long-distance ones, require hard work and effort.

8. Keep Your Connection

It will help if you keep your connection no matter what. It’s very easy to grow apart when you don’t feel connected to your partner. Ask them about their day, and tell them about yours. Of course, you don’t have to report every single thing to your partner, but it would be nice always to keep them updated on your life, regardless of how far your distance is.
